About Heather Farris >
Pinterest has just announced in the last week that they are rolling out the ability to hide AI content from your Pinterest feed. I have been advocating for my communities for months to get account level settings but I will take the Pin level settings for now.
Now what did the update say? Here’s what I just sent my email list.
Pinterest just announced a major update: they’re rolling out AI-generated content labels across the platform.
This means if you’re using AI tools like DALL·E or Midjourney to create Pin images (or even AI-assisted designs in tools like Canva), Pinterest will start labeling those images as AI-generated.
Here’s what you need to know:
Here’s what this is going to look like as it rolls out. Your Pins will have an option in the 3 dots menu to see fewer images in any given category.
So—how should you respond?
✅ If you’re using AI tools in your Pin creation process, start thinking about what you’ll need to label.
✅ If you’re using tools like Canva or Adobe with AI image generation, keep an eye out for updates.
✅ And if you’re in my membership, don’t worry—I’ll be walking you through all of this inside our office hour calls.
If your Pins get caught in the AI filters and you want to appeal because they are not GenAI you can do so.
It’s important to know that Pinterest will be labeling images for you and you will not be labeling them yourselves. Here’s a quote from the article:
“To do this, we not only analyze an image’s metadata, but also developed classifiers that automatically detect Gen AI content, even if the content doesn’t have obvious markers.”
Even if you try to get around the systems by removing metadata your Pins can still get this label and users will be able to remove it from their feeds if they wish.
I really think this is a great move in the direction of human-made content. I don’t know about you but I don’t care to see AI content at all. I want to see real art, real beauty tips, real food and real fashion, home decor and more.
As Pinterest evolves, so do we. My job is to stay ahead of changes like this so you can keep showing up confidently and effectively.
