January Pinterest Trends are coming at you today and if you haven’t started pinning for January yet you should start now. You may be wondering what you should be pinning though and that my friend is why I’m here yet again talking about trends.
Pinners come to Pinterest to find things that inspire their daily lives. They are looking for things to do, recipes to cook, projects to create… Pinners are planners so make sure you are pinning with the end user in mind.
If you haven’t signed up for our Pinterest Strategy Guide & Trends Calendar you can do that now. If you are looking for help with your Pinterest whether you’d like a consultation or someone to manage your account you can find our services page here.
Let’s dive into January and what you should be pinning during the upcoming New Year.
We are still in full on Christmas gift buying mode at the time of writing this but we are looking forward to the New Year and all it has to offer.
The New Year for many brings a fresh start and a new outlook on life. Sounds familiar, right? Does your audience plan for New Year’s Resolutions?
What we are going to focus on for January pinning is going to be that fresh start people are looking for.
A fresh planner, a fresh outlook on productivity, working out, eating right… you name it there is a fresh start for nearly everything! Pinterest calls this the “back to life” spike in traffic. The holidays are over and we are all getting back to a somewhat normal routine.
Let’s dive in!
When pinners are headed into the New Year they have likely just spent a lot of money on travel, gifts, big family dinners and they’ve taken a lot of time off of work. They are going to be more likely to stick to a budget so they can payoff any of the debt they accumulated during the holiday season.
This might not always be the case but they are going to be more budget conscious due to their holiday spending.
We have all seen the gym during the first 2 weeks of the year… In fact, I have seen the gym industry offering discounts and targeting me in ads to sign up for a gym membership. January is a time when some people are starting a new fitness regimen and your content may be able to help them stick to it once and for all!
Personally we like to eat healthy year round… we actually recently went vegan and it’s been the biggest lifestyle change we’ve made since we went keto 2 years ago. The new year is a time when those same pinners who are looking to get into a fitness regimen are also looking for routines that will help them to eat better.
Make sure you are targeting these pinners with your healthy recipe & lifestyle content.
Now is the time when those pinners are putting all those crazy decorations they had out back into the basement or garage. It’s also a new year which means they may need a fresh round or decluttering and organizing. Getting into that mindset of less is more and really making use of what you have is becoming more and more popular! Those pinners are looking for you.
When I managed Jessica’s Pinterest account her pin “How to Declutter Like a Pro” went crazy viral in January and it still ranks at the top of the search.
This time of the year is plagued by winter nights coming faster and kids transitioning back into school. Not to mention parents going back to work after time off for the holidays. Many moms are looking for various routines for their home, family and themselves. This is the time to get your content to help those pinners with their routines.
If you are living under a rock you wouldn’t know that goal planning is HUGE in January. Pinners are looking to set goals for the year and with a new quarter starting businesses are also looking to set new goals.
Now is the time to start getting those new planners out there, goal planning content and ideas on how to actually achieve those goals.

Pinterest trends for January even filter into promoting pins. If you are going to promote pins in January you likely should have started those campaigns earlier in December, but now is good too. As long as your campaign isn’t super evergreen you should be able to get it started and start driving traffic to your promotion.
My advice is if you are running a sale or hoping to generate leads and build pageviews during this season, get going on it in advance. Pinterest Ads need more than 7 days so if you are running a quick 48 hour sale this isn’t the time to start an ad.
Now is the time if you haven’t already started planning and creating your content for January. You should be publishing this content right now!
Holidays coming up are Productivity, Budgeting, Goal Planning, Time Management, Valentine’s Day and more. Get started on creating content specific to those trends around them now.
Start writing content around:
These are just a few ideas but hopefully they will get your wheels turning around content you can create for your audience.
If it were me I’d even be planning for January and getting that content created now. Grab the Pinterest Strategy Checklist & Trends Calendar so you know what to create!
Clean up your blog posts that are going to be a big hit during the New Year. Check for broken links and see if you can create an opt-in specific to that post. That’s called a content upgrade and it’s specific to each post.
You are also going to want to start creating new images for those older posts and getting new descriptions written. While you’re at it go ahead and add these updated posts to your scheduling platforms.
