About Heather Farris >
Can we talk about creating a content strategy & why you should have that strategy before you ever start marketing?
I find a lot of people waste a ton of money on marketing and aren’t actually creating content that converts to sales or leads in their business.
Far too many entrepreneurs running online businesses create content because they think they need to put something up.
STOP IT! Stop creating content just to create content.
What you should be doing is treating your content as an employee in your business. It works for you on your behalf while you’re doing other important things.
It’s out there building your email list, getting calls into your calendar, selling your digital products for you.
This is something a lot of business owners never even consider.
Recently I asked my community if they made money from their content and a large majority said they didn’t know.
WHAT? No, no, no.
If you aren’t getting leads from your content then you aren’t getting sales from it which means you have a really expensive hobby.
You may be making money in other areas of your business but if you are creating content & you aren’t making money from it then things need to change.
We have to go back to square one.
That’s where your content strategy comes in.
Well this is simple… the strategy is how you plan to get people from not knowing you to paying you with their eyeballs or their credit cards.
The content strategy plan on the other hand is the actual content you plan to create.
Having a content calendar is not the same as having a content strategy. Unfortunately, not many people even know they’re different.
Having a solid content strategy that feeds your business goals can be such a powerful tool for you.
But a solid strategy can really help you to do a number of things.
First things first it helps take your customers on a journey through your sales cycle. You can’t drop someone in the middle and hope they make it to the end.
Your content helps to build trust in your customers’ minds. No one is going to buy from an untrustworthy source.
Great content that provides incredible value can and will build loyalty. Those people will keep coming back knowing you really helped them in the past. When potential clients and customers can see the results from free content they will know there are even better results when they pay.
Content can help you to build authority and will have people asking you to be an expert for their audience. It will have brands reaching out. Your audience will know you are the person and refer you to their friends.
Great content done right can bring you leads and sales (dare I say it) on autopilot. This is putting your content to work for you!
Content published on platforms like YouTube & your blog will help you to build SEO and the more authority you have in the search engine the more your content will be served.
There are always people on the fence about products and services and great content can help to improve your conversions for you.
If you’re ready to build a content marketing strategy that works for you in your business then you need to change your mindset around content marketing right now.
