Are you wondering how to create Pinterest board sections? A Pinterest section is an organizers dream. Enneagram Type 1, anybody? In this super quick blog post I’m going to show you exactly how to create Pinterest board sections and talk to you why you might want to create them.
Sections are becoming more talked about, especially in the group audit & training sessions I have been doing with Pinterest as part of the education program I have been working on with them with creators.
In essence, they are a sub-board within a larger board. They make it easy to organize a larger board down by topic or grouping of similar pins.
For example, I might make sections for my board titled Pinterest Schedulers and name them:
You could create sections within boards to organize a food type by cooking style. A decor style by room. A fashion style by season. The options are endless.
There are a few reasons you might want to create a section over a standalone board… But why create sections over a board? This is a great question I have been covering in Pin Profit Academy.
To clarify on sections:
The short answer? Sections, obviously.
Sections are indexed by Pinterest so be sure to name them strategically the same way you would if you were to create a board.
To get started creating sections you will have 2 options.
First click into the board then “organize” or the plus sign at the bottom of the board. If you create the plus sign you will move your pins to the section. If you organize your pins on the board you will create the section and it will move them over. It will work either way.
Here’s what it it looks like to name your section:
Click “organize” or the plus button to create a section
Name your section using a Pinterest SEO keyword
Click to choose the pins you want to organize into your sections then click add to section or move to section. This is going to depend on whether you create your section without organizing your pins.
Once you’ve moved your pins into the section hit the back button at the top left corner of the board right under the logo.
To make your section a standalone board I would start first with creating a board with the same section title. Then go into your existing board with the section and click the section open then click organize and move those pins from the section to the new board.

I can schedule my pins to boards, can I schedule them to sections? The short answer is yes but only with the native Pinterest scheduler. Find the board and click the carrot open and you’ll find the sections. Then finish optimizing your pins and schedule it.

Should you use sections? My wisdom here is that if you have enough content and products to make a standalone board – do that. If you do not then make a section. You can move back and forth from section to board to section if you want. You’re not married to this.
