How much will 10 million, 15 million, or even 19 million monthly view on Pinterest help your business? You probably see the videos saying:  “Get my marketing strategy on how to get 10 million monthly views on Pinterest.” They have thousands of views on them. 

But when I look at the video timestamps on YouTube or watch the content, they leave me feeling like I still don’t know what I need to do to achieve this metric.

So what do we do? Is it even worth it? What’s the point? The point of today’s post is to talk to you about how my clients are getting 19 million views, 17 million views, or 16 million views. A few are getting 3 to 7 million monthly viewers. What does it all mean? And how?

What’s required for millions of views on Pinterest

So, what is the point of today’s post? Today’s post will help dive deep into the glaringly obvious missing pieces (to me, but maybe not to you) in other people’s YouTube videos:  where they say, “Hey, this is my Pinterest strategy to get 10 million monthly viewers.” They only give you the same advice, though, every time:

• Use Pinterest Trends
• Create pins consistently
• Use idea pins
• Repurpose your TikToks to Pinterest

What’s missing?

They leave out some massive things that I think are important as to why they are getting those numbers on Pinterest and why you may not be getting them at all.

Two things that are missing from what they’re teaching about views on Pinterest

Here are the two things that are missing in all of this.

1. Best performing niches

These creators don’t talk about what niches on Pinterest actually perform the best and get this kind of viewership engagement.

2. Kind of content

These creators never tell you what kind of content performs the best.

Best niches in my clients’ roster for views on Pinterest

For this blog post, I went into my client’s accounts for hard evidence of what you need to know. We have about a dozen organic clients on our roster, and I looked at all the big ones. I found their most popular or biggest months for viewership. 

I wanted to look at how many views on Pinterest they were getting and how many outbound clicks they were getting. Remember, it’s not just about views. Views do not equal income.

The two niches that stood out the most for the highest viewership and the highest page views were:

• Home decor
• Kids activities

I have clients that are getting 3 to 7 million monthly views. Those clients are in entertaining, gardening, and jewelry. I also have a couple of e-commerce clients that have pretty good viewership. However, today I want to focus on the top two niches based on those clients.

Home decor niche

The number one niche in my client’s roster is home decor. I have two clients in the home decor space. They were both doing the same thing and had good viewership. One of them got 18.97 million monthly views in November 2021. This is right before the holiday season, and she had a lot of content that picked up and went viral that year.

It didn’t  just go viral for her that year, but also it’s the same sort of content that goes viral every single year. One of the things that content creators don’t tell you is most of these creators have a handful of content that tends to carry the load of the views and page views year over year.

Now let’s talk about her viewership vs. her outbound clicks. In November 2021, this creator in the home decor space had 18.97 million monthly viewers and 59,625 outbound clicks. You can see that there are a lot fewer outbound clicks than viewership.

As I mentioned earlier, views on Pinterest don’t pay the bills. Views are essential, and we need to get monthly views and impressions for the rest to trickle down, and for clicks and engagements to occur. 

In November 2021, creator number two had 17.11 million monthly viewers and 60,954 outbound clicks.

They had about 1.5 million fewer views and more page views than the first home decor creator. So it’s apples to apples, pretty much in that space, at least for these two clients I have hard data on.

How do people in the home decor space actually monetize?

That’s a relevant question that actually creates the income from those views. These clients are monetizing with display ads like Mediavine, Google AdSense, etc. They also monetize with brand partnerships and sponsorships. 

These two are very similar. In brand partnerships, you partner with the brand for a longer period of time, whereas you can land a sponsored post once, get paid a couple of thousand dollars, and then it’s done.

They also will monetize with affiliate links through Recruitin, RewardStyle, LikeToKnowIt (which is owned by RewardStyle), and Amazon, those kinds of things.

What kind of content does the best for views on Pinterest in the home decor space?

One of the people that I saw creating a video of how to get 10 million monthly viewers with their Pinterest Marketing strategy is in the home renovation space. You know who you are if you’re watching my content.

In this home decor, home renovation space, inspirational how-to value-driven content does very well, such as:

• How to build a bed frame?
• How to decorate your Christmas tree in all white?
• How to decorate your banister on your stairs with garland?

One of my client’s idea pins went viral in November 2021. It got over a million impressions on the idea pin within a matter of days because it was all about how to decorate your banister with a living garland like alive greenery.  This super simple 60-second idea pin got over a million impressions in a matter of days.

 A couple of other things that do well in this space are:

• Before and afters – when you show someone a really ugly room ‘before’ decorating, and then you show them a beautiful ‘after’ with no context. This kind of content performs well. It’s inspirational, so people can quickly engage with it and save it. They can like it, but that’s really as far as it goes.
• How-to content
  • How to do a table setting?
  • How to create a floral arrangement?
  • How to decorate your Christmas tree?
  • How to build a bed frame?

Those sorts of things perform the best in the home decor space from my clients.

Kids activities niche

The following account is in the kid’s activity space. In October 2021, they had 16 million monthly views and 123,222 outbound clicks. Now you can see that out of the three examples I pulled out, they are the lowest on the monthly viewers but the highest on page views on Pinterest.

Why is that? 

Because during this time frame of October, November, and December, kids are out of school a lot, and many holidays are going on. They have content that helps parents and teachers create activities to do specific things, DIY-style things, at home on a budget. These include seasonal activities, like Halloween for example:

• How to make Halloween playdough?
• How to make Halloween room decor?
• How to decorate your front porch with your kids?

Content like that performs well in this space. They also do a lot of curriculum-style content, like activities that teachers can do in the classroom, and this content performs very well.

Very early on they noticed they had two very different audiences, so we cater to both. We create content for both the teachers and parents looking for it. And right alongside the parents and the teachers, there’s a big home school community on Pinterest that uses their content quite often. They fit in both buckets.

Video content impact on views on Pinterest

This client has created videos since the beginning of time. They have been creating videos since Facebook pages were popular. That has led us to have a lot of viral, high engagement-friendly content on Pinterest for years ahead of the curve and everyone else.

So we started repurposing the videos into Idea pins. I can post one Idea pin, which will get 50,000 to 100,000 impressions overnight. They are a dominant force to be reckoned with. This particular client has been with me for four years and competes heavily with brands that you find on the shelves at Target. So they are a household name when it comes to this specific niche.

What is conversion?

Now, just because someone gets 10 million, 15 million, or 19 million monthly viewers on Pinterest doesn’t mean they’re getting conversions and sales, which is a whole different layer to this onion of a conversation. These other people’s videos really suck because they don’t give you any meat worth eating.

So let’s move on to conversions now. What are conversions?

For most of my clients, conversions are:

• Page views
• E-mail list signups
• Purchases of products

Some things are free and some things are paid. Either way, it is a conversion. A click to your website is a page view, a conversion of some sort. We want to take our Pinterest content and drive people to the best place where we actually do our conversions, which in most cases is on your website itself.

People talk about getting millions of monthly viewers but don’t actually talk about the little traffic they get to their website. Or they talk about the traffic they get to their website and leave out the fact that they might be promoting pins on Pinterest and paying for that traffic. I have caught creators on this platform doing this and not being honest about it before.

So if they’re saying, “Hey, you can get 10 million monthly viewers,” ask them:

• How many page views on Pinterest are you getting from your traffic?
• How much traffic are you getting to your website?
• Is that traffic leading to sales?
• Is it growing your e-mail list?

Ask them to show you the proof. In most cases, that’s what these people are leaving out. You can get 10 million monthly viewers. You can use Pinterest Trends, and possibly get a viral video. But at the end of the day, is it paying your bills? That’s what I want to know.

Final thoughts with views on Pinterest

The last thing I want to leave you with is just to let you know that I often help people fight through this mindset of:  “If they are getting 10 million monthly views on Pinterest, why can’t I? Why am I failing at this if they can achieve this successfully?”
